A jeweler at New Ranganas Jewellery is responsible for crafting, repairing, appraising, and maintaining jewelry and watches. On-site Work
All work is to be completed at the physical location in Scarborough, ON. Remote work is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean jewelry and timepieces using specialized solutions and ultrasonic cleaning machines.
- Fabricate, repair, and fit parts for watches and clocks.
- Appraise gemstones and diamonds to determine quality, authenticity, and value.
- Instruct apprentices on jewelry-making techniques and best practices.
- Perform complex repairs and adjustments on watches, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
- Supervise other jewelers or watch repairers in the workshop.
- Cut, shape, and polish diamonds and precious or synthetic gemstones.
- Set precious and semi-precious stones into various jewelry mountings with precision.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, appraisals, and customer requests.
Tasks
- Clean all parts using special cleaning and rinsing solutions and ultrasonic or mechanical cleaning machines.
- Fabricate or fit parts to make watches and clocks.
- Instruct apprentices in jewelry techniques and skills.
- Perform repairs and adjustments on watches and clocks.
- Supervise other jewelers or watch repairers to ensure high-quality work.
- Test, adjust, and regulate timepiece movements for accuracy.
Qualifications
- 1 to 2 years of experience in a jeweler or watch repair role.
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to distinguish between colors and materials, especially when working with gemstones.
- Basic understanding of gemstone appraisal and metalworking techniques.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
- Proficiency with jewelry-making tools and equipment, including ultrasonic cleaners, microscopes, and engraving tools.

- Precision in craftsmanship, particularly when working with small parts and intricate designs.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially when identifying and repairing damaged jewelry or timepieces.
- Ability to appraise and evaluate gemstones for quality and authenticity.
